To become a better leader you need to identify your leadership style and understand what you need to change or enhance in your style to be more effective.

In autocratic leadership style, there is one person in charge of every decision. Any input from others is hardly considered while making decisions. This leadership style works great in times of crisis but it can make your employees feel devalued. It should be applied only when there’s no time for group decision making or when the leader is the most knowledgeable person and can be completely relied on.

  1. Democratic Leadership

In democratic leadership style, the leader considers the opinion of all before making the decision. Although the leader is involved in every activity, they provide space for innovative and creative thinking. However, this style of leadership cannot be applied for making quick decisions.

  1. Laissez-Faire Leadership

In this approach, the leader puts a lot of trust in the team and is not directly involved in the decision making process. However, the leader is informed about what’s going on and provides feedback whenever necessary. Laissez-faire is a French word meaning “allow to do”. With this approach, the employees feel valued and confident but the downside of this style is employees can begin to take advantage of your approach.

4. Pace-Setter Leadership

In this leadership style the bar is set high and the leader expects fast and effective initiatives to get the desired results. This style of leadership works good for highly energized and experienced professionals who are objective oriented. However, the downside is the employees can easily become stressed and burned out.

  1. Transformational Leadership

Transformational leadership is all about inspiring the team to achieve success and work towards a shared vision. Transformational leaders are empathetic, self-aware, humble and authentic. When people in your team feel that they are contributing to something great, they put in their best efforts to reach the goal.

  1. Servant Leadership

In servant leadership, the leader puts the employees first. They highlight the individual, ideas or the team instead of themselves. This style works well in humanitarian businesses where people and the mission both are extremely important. Servant leadership is also ideal when the team is demotivated or has low morale.

  1. Charismatic Leadership

Charismatic leaders have a personality that people love and admire. They have an excellent skill of motivating, inspiring and energizing people. Charismatic leadership is highly effective in improving team morale and the chances of success. However, being a charismatic leader isn’t easy as not everyone has that charismatic personality. However, it can be developed over time.

  1. Transactional Leadership

Transactional leadership relies on a reward and punishment model. It rewards the employees that achieve target in various ways and punishes the ones who fail to do so. This could be helpful in inspiring the team to perform better but can also lower the morale of some employees due to the punishment system.

Effective leaders continuously evolve their skills and techniques to become better. Adjusting your leadership style is also crucial. However, it should be noted that every style of leadership requires a certain amount of time to succeed. The key is embracing the right style and being patient and consistent with it to get the results.
